He knows first hand the heartbreak of bullying. Just read his book, Dreams From My Father. Now he does what he can to help teens deal with the bullying that has claimed so many lives.

Gay marriage debate goes on….Des Moines Register Opinion

Please take the time to read the two articles in the Des Moines paper today, a legal view and religious view. The legal view gives you a background on the Supreme Court ruling April 4, 2009 that gives a valid future to gay marriage in Iowa. The religious view discusses how many churches are torn on this topic but the statements quoted of Bishop Stephen Charlston and his “10 minutes to save the world” remarks are very enlightening. My opinion is that gay marriage is here to stay in Iowa. We respect each others differences and more importantly – we stick up for each other.

Iowa Panel Backs Gay Marriage

Ok, so it’s nothing carved in stone but the article today in the Des Moines Register regarding a panel that was assembled to discuss the Iowa Supreme Court Ruling allowing gay marriage and if it can be overturned by a constitutional amendment. This panel is a mix of Democrats and Republicans and the result of this asssembly is that although it is not impossible the ruling would be overturned it is highly unlikely. Please follow the link to read the full story. Basically it is saying, Iowans respect each other’s differences. Which most of us already know.

Fun was had by all but not everyone can win. We drew two names for each day. First Place Winners each day Saturday and Sunday won a Gift Card from Bed Bath and Beyond for $40. Second Place Winners each day won a $20 Gift Card to Home Depot.

Iowa was the Rock Star at Twin Cities Pride!!

Thank you Twin Cities for the warm welcome and all the fantastic well wishes we received at Pride. I think Iowa has finally redeemed itself in the eyes of Minnesotans. Who would have thought!! Enough with the Iowa jokes! We had an incredibly fun time and met so many wonderful, funny and compassionate people. We played the Newlywed Game in our booth so the annoucement of the winners to follow and, with permission – photos! Many thanks to all the hard work of the organizers of TCPride. Beautifully and efficiently run and everyone had a lot of fun! So big hats off and if anyone can help out that organization – trust me – its money well spent! Extra special thanks to my friends Nancy and Rick from Blaine MN – wonderful friends for years who gave us housing, love and lots and lots of help!! More to follow!!!!
